Trevor Greene

                             

 

Greene grew up in a tight-knit family in Ottawa, close to his parents Elizabeth and Richard.  He studied journalism at Kings College. Greene was a bachelor transplant from Halifax, a strapping six-foot-four rugby player and elite-level rower. He lived on a houseboat, worked at Stock.com during the day, researched and wrote at night, was fluent in French and Japanese. He was also passionate about helping the marginalized to survive on the streets of Vancouver -- so much so that after his injury a former prostitute posted to a blog that Greene, while researching his book Bad Date, The Lost Girls of Vancouver's Low Track (ECW), had provided her with the inspiration to get off the streets. Nelofer Pazira

 

Nelofer Pazira, the star of the movie "Kandahar", was born in India, into an Afghan professional family in 1973. The family returned to Kabul when Nelofer was a child. Nelofer grew up in Kabul during the Russian occupation of the country. The family fled to Pakistan in 1989, when Nelofer was sixteen. As a refugee, Nelofer lived in Pakistan for one year before migrating to Canada. She obtained her degree in Journalism and English Literature from Carleton University in Ottawa and is working on her MA thesis at Concordia University, Montreal. Since 1996, Nelofer has made two documentary films about Iran. As a journalist, she has worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Radio, written for Sight & Sound (British Film Institute Magazine), Elm Street, McLeans, The Ottawa Citizen, The Toronto Star, Panorama, and EI Semanal. Pazira played the lead role in Mohsen Makhmalbaf's film "Kandahar" –a film based on Pazira's real life story. Jully Black

Jully Black has the look of a woman that's come into her own. She carries herself with an unshakable air of confidence; her eyes shine brightly, a smile is quick to spread across her face. She has the look of a woman in love with life and full of passion for music. Jully has the look of a woman embracing her destiny, a woman fulfilling the promise of her youth. Revival is the soundtrack to this awakening, this euphoric celebration, this moment of grace.

For the Toronto native, her much-anticipated sophomore album serves as an opportunity to meditate on where she is, and how she got there. Jully's journey has hit some high notes. She's penned songs for Destiny's Child and Nas, and shared the stage with Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Bon Jovi, Josh Groban and Usher.

Served in Afghanistan in 2006 as a Platoon Commander with the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

Is a journalist, poet and change maker.  Asna facilitates and leads social transformation through intercultural dialogue, spoken work and her art.
